Why Support Serenity Homes of Oregon

SHO's highly effective Portland-based addiction recovery program is soliciting help to reach its board set goal of raising $25,000. An anonymous matching incentive grant starting Dec 1st 2009 will match all New Beginning's Society gifts up to $25,000 collected by February 28th 2010. Those who become SHO members with their $1,000 gift and this year’s Platinum level of $2,500 can double their donation.  SHO looks to grow its membership base of 51 members to 63 by adding 12 new members this year.  Serenity Homes of Oregon (SHO) is currently reaching out to people in local communities to reach that goal. The funds will be used to increase addiction recovery services and help open an additional home for recovering addicts within the next four months.

Oregon faces an urgent need for expanded addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services that currently cost the state an estimated $5.93 billion a year, or $1,600 for each Oregon resident, according to a recently released report by the Oregon Department of Human Services. The report recommends that recovery investments be used "to help more Oregonians transition into a recovery lifestyle and maintain long-term recovery."

SHO "New Beginning's Society" Charter Member Michael Hollen, clinical team leader for Providence St Vincent Outpatient Chemical Dependency Services, says, "One of the challenges we face daily is the unavailability of a broad range of recovery services when people are ready to make substantial changes in their lives." He says the type of recovery program that SHO offers -- clean and sober housing with appropriate involvement of a support group and the introduction of a structured, fully supportive environment - is vitally needed.

Serenity Homes of Oregon is the first step to a better way of life. With our program and the support of our community, we are one step closer to removing the barriers facing the recovery process. Serenity Homes of Oregon relies 100% on contributions from the community. Without that support, our organization cannot exist. The individuals who participate in our program go from hopeless to functioning, supportive members of our society. A goal that benefits everyone.
